Next Baptism Sunday- March 30th

When Christians are baptized, we are submerged under water (briefly) to follow Jesus' example in His baptism, death, burial, and resurrection.  If you have made the decision to follow Jesus, the most important step you can take is baptism.
Why be baptized?
When we are baptized we are following Jesus' example and obeying His command.

*  "And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."  --Matthew 3:16-17

*  "Jesus came and told his disciples, 'I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you."  --Matthew 28:18-20
What is the significance of baptism?
Water baptism is a public declaration of three very important things:
 1. I am a follower of Jesus Christ!
"Those who accepted his message were baptized."  - Acts 2:41a
2. I am now living a life that has been changed in Christ!
"We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the death by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life." - Romans 6:4
3. I am a part of the family of all those who believe in Jesus!
"For in Christ Jesus you are all sons & daughters of God, through Faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. - Galatians 3:26-27
I have already been baptized. Should I be baptized again?
Your baptism should have signified your having become a follower of Jesus, beginning a changed life, and uniting with a new family. If your baptism did not reflect this change of life, then you should be baptized again.
Can my child be baptized?
Baptism is for everyone who has given their life to Jesus, understands what baptism symbolizes, and is ready to make that decision public. Of course this includes children!

For more information about how to guide your child through this important decision, check out our Children's Baptism Guide.
Can my infant be baptized?
The New Testament teaches us that baptism is an act of obedience and a public declaration of our faith.  It symbolizes the new life we have in Jesus.  We find that Jesus' parents dedicated him to the LORD (Luke 2:22-40), and he was later baptized as an adult (Matthew 3:16-17).

We understand that some churches practice "baptism of confirmation" or "Christening" for young children and infants. This custom began about 300 years after the Bible was completed and is different from the biblical examples of new believers being baptized to publicly profess their faith in Jesus. This tradition is called paedobaptism and is in opposition to the gospel, so we do not recognize or participate in that manmade tradition.

At CLC we provide opportunities for infant/child dedication.  This special part of the service is intended to be a commitment between the parents and God on the behalf of the child, with the support of their church family.  The parents promise to raise their child in the faith until the child is old enough to make his or her own decision to follow Jesus as Lord and then to participate in baptism.
